Liebherr Unveils World’s Most Powerful Six-Axle Crane

Liebherr’s factory in Ehingen, Germany, has introduced the world’s most powerful six-axle crane: the LTM 1400-6.1. Boasting a 70-meter telescopic boom, this new crane is designed for easy and efficient setup, succeeding the highly acclaimed LTM 1350-6.1.

The LTM 1400-6.1, like its predecessor, is the smallest crane featuring Y-guying, making it an excellent entry point for this boom technology, which significantly boosts lifting capacity. This versatile and economical crane offers a wide array of accessories, a modular boom kit, and advanced Liebherr technologies, including driver assistance systems that enhance road safety.

Liebherr’s engineers have optimized the six-axle crane during its development. The LTM 1400-6.1 surpasses its predecessor, the LTM 1350-6.1, in lifting capacity, setting a new standard in the global market. Integrating the latest engineering advancements and innovative systems, Liebherr has crafted a powerful yet user-friendly machine.

The development of the LTM 1400-6.1 focused on simplifying and expediting setup processes. The workflow from arrival at the construction site to full operational readiness is streamlined for maximum efficiency. Significant improvements have been made to the assembly of the Y-guying system compared to the LTM 1350-6.1.

With a single self-assembly lift, the LTM 1400-6.1 positions the guying system on the chassis, securing it in place. The hydraulic quick coupling automatically locks when the boom is luffed down between the Y-frames, and an electrical connection completes the setup. This process ensures the crane is ready for use within minutes.

The LTM 1400-6.1 features various lattice jibs, enhancing its efficiency across numerous applications. The fixed lattice jib extends the telescopic boom by up to 45.5 meters and can be angled at 0°, 10°, 20°, and 40°. An adjustable option allows for angles between 0° and 40°. The luffing lattice jib, ranging from 14 to 80.5 meters, provides maximum height, radius, and performance.

The crane’s ballast system is also improved. The LTM 1400-6.1 includes 100 tonnes of basic ballast and 40 tonnes of additional ballast. Its hydraulic ballasting device is integrated into the counterweight frame, making ballast assembly quick and straightforward without needing an auxiliary crane. The VarioBallast® system differs significantly from its predecessor, allowing the 140 tonnes of ballast to be adjusted to a 7.7-meter radius for maximum lifting capacity. In tight spaces, the radius can be reduced to 5.6 meters. The counterweight plates are compatible with those on other large Liebherr cranes, offering economic and logistical benefits for crane operators.

This new crane marks a significant advancement in crane technology, setting a new benchmark for power and efficiency in the industry.
